No-Knead Bread – The original recipe
Making bread is a fun and rewarding activity. I have been using the recipe below for years without fail. You will magically impress your family and guests without understanding how. I guarantee!
Jim Lahey is credited with creating the no-knead bread recipe that became popular in recent years. He shared the original recipe with the New York Times in 2006. If you are a visual person, here are the step-by-step video instructions by the chef himself.
Ingredients
- 3 cups of flour
- 1/4 tsp of instant yeast
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups of water
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Combine.
- Add the water and still until well combined. The dough will be shaggy and sticky.
- Cover the blow with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size and is covered in bubbles.
- Preheat the oven to 450F. Place a Dutch oven or any other oven-safe pot with a lid in the oven while it preheats.
- Remove the pot from the oven and carefully place the dough inside. Cover the lid and bake for 30 min.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 min, or until the bread is golden brown.
- Remove the bread from the pot and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Get the butter ready. I made the batch below this weekend. It was gone in 15 min. Miam!
