Take that rest
For all the hardworking folks, the parents who tirelessly juggle family and career, I have a simple message for you: Take that rest. You don’t need anyone’s permission. The world will keep spinning; everything will remain the same. Indulge in the luxury of sleep.
As an overachiever myself, I’ve often found it challenging to embrace downtime. It feels as though I’m hardwired to be in constant motion, as if rest is a frivolous indulgence. Somewhere along the line, I began to equate my worth with my productivity. With two children in the picture, relaxation seems like an elusive dream. I’m aware they might require a snack, but it can wait. No one will suffer from a slight delay.
The beauty of life lies in its unpredictability and the thrill of the unknown. How would my day unfold if I prioritized my needs? Guess what? The world didn’t end, and I ended up at peace. So, the next time you feel an urge to be on the move, question if it’s absolutely necessary. Today, I allowed myself three hours of undisturbed sleep, and it felt wonderful. After my rest, I attended to my family, and everything was just as it should be. The slight wait didn’t cause any harm.
Moving forward, I pledge to be more attuned to my body’s signals. If I need to eat, I will. If I need to sleep, I will. If I need to do nothing at all, I’ll embrace it wholeheartedly. There’s a certain tranquility in knowing that sometimes, you don’t have to do anything. Life continues its journey, with or without us. I’ve learned to be at peace with this fact and respect my body’s needs.
Again, I want to share my perspective as a reminder that you are not alone in this journey. Love, Katursia
